Vaginitis: Why does it bother us after summer and how is it treated?

Heat, humidity and contact with sand and sunbeds are some of the main causes that lead to the occurrence of vaginitis during the summer. A large number of women experience symptoms of vaginitis in the summer, sometimes milder and sometimes more intense.

These symptoms must be treated effectively and promptly , before they cause more severe health problems, but we may not pay attention to them during our vacation and thus discover their existence after we return from vacation . But what exactly is vaginitis and how can we treat it?

Vaginitis is an inflammation that occurs in the female vagina, usually due to the presence of pathogenic microorganisms, and causes stinging , itching , and vaginal discharge of a different color, volume, and odor than usual.

Our body, essentially, being attacked by bacteria or fungi, defends itself by creating inflammation in the vaginal area, which, however, disrupts our secretions, which can now be yellow, white or gray. Other symptoms of vaginitis are stinging or pain during urination , as well as during sexual intercourse . There are various types of vaginitis, however, the most common form that we encounter during the summer and, of course, at its end, is fungal vaginitis.

90% of women will experience this type of vaginitis at least once in their lives, which is caused by the overgrowth of the fungus Candida albicans. Women in their 3rd and 4th decades of life, as well as pregnant women, are more likely to experience this type of vaginitis, especially in the summer or at the end of it.

Treatment of vaginitis:

As soon as we notice that our body is showing any of the above symptoms, we should contact our gynecologist so that he can examine us and give us the appropriate medication , usually in the form of pills . The treatment will last for a period of time depending on the intensity of our symptoms.

The additional use of mild cleansers for the sensitive area is also recommended to more quickly restore its pH levels, always with the approval of our gynecologist.

Prevention, the best treatment for vaginitis:

As vaginitis can bother us for a long time, especially if our immune system is weakened, it is useful to follow the following hygiene rules as a precaution , especially if we take into account that sometimes vaginitis is asymptomatic , and therefore we may always suffer from it without knowing it.

Cotton, the only 100% safe material:

The use of underwear made of 100% cotton , which allows the skin to breathe , and the use of sanitary napkins and other personal hygiene items made of cotton , especially ecological cotton , without a trace of plastic, is a basic method of preventing vaginitis. In a second stage, it is also a method of treating its symptoms , since the use of 100% cotton personal hygiene products limits the chances of the organism recurring.

Goodbye, humidity

Changing your swimsuit frequently during the summer so that it does not dry out on you, as well as using only your own dry and clean towel at the beach and in the bathroom, prevents the proliferation of fungi in the genital area.

Probiotics and healthy eating

Consuming foods with probiotics , such as "live yogurt" as well as limiting foods containing sugar, contribute significantly to the prevention of the annoying uninvited summer guest, which we must deal with effectively, so that we are not forced to "host" it in the fall as well.
