Are period pains in your job description?

You're sitting at your desk and suddenly you feel a pain in your stomach. It's getting worse, you feel nauseous, you're sweating... You're on your period! What do you do? Do you take a taxi and go home or do you endure the pain and pretend to work normally? #beentheredonethat

Many women face this dilemma every month.

Period pain can range from just annoying to unbearable and can even cause vomiting or fainting . However, women usually prefer to be patient rather than ask for permission, even though they are in pain.

How would you feel if your country or the company you work for offered you 2 days off a month specifically for your period?

Various companies around the world are discussing - or already have - some kind of "Period Policy".

British company Coexist offers flexible hours to its employees, arguing that period days are days for body care and recovery. Nike has had a similar policy since 2007. Since 1948, female workers in Indonesia have been entitled to two days of period leave each month. In Japan, there is a law that forces employers to let female employees miss work if they are having difficulty with their periods; in South Korea, female employees not only have paid period leave but, if they do not use it, they get paid for the leave; and in Taiwan, women are entitled to an additional three days of leave per year for their periods.

Period leave may call gender equality into question, as it opens up the debate about women's professional costs.

Despite the rules of the labor code , which prohibit gender discrimination, the introduction of the leave period can lead to injustices in the hiring of employees.

Given that women already face discrimination (albeit illegal) due to their likelihood of pregnancy, additional leave days are likely to become a reason for more frequent hiring of men.

However, women who suffer from dysmenorrhea or endometriosis would undoubtedly benefit from such a leave. Also, the establishment of such a leave would be a step forward in the effort to break the taboos surrounding menstruation, a normal, healthy process of the female body.

What do you think about period leave and how do you deal with period pain when you're at work? Do you reveal the reason for your pain if someone asks you?
