One-third of the female population will suffer from vaginitis at least once in their lives. Vaginitis occurs when there is a change in the normal flora of the vagina, resulting in the dominance of a microorganism, such as a fungus or bacteria. Itching and increased fluid are two of the main symptoms of vaginitis, whatever its underlying cause. To protect yourself from vaginitis, you can follow the following tips:
- Avoid excessive use of vaginal cleansers and scented detergents.
- Clean the area with natural products that do not change its normal flora and do not skip a daily shower.
- Avoid intravaginal washing with antiseptics, as this disrupts the flora of the area and allows pathogenic microbes to develop.
- Change your underwear daily and preferably use 100% cotton, and never borrow someone else's.
- Use 100% organic cotton sanitary napkins, it allows your skin to breathe and the vagina to maintain its normal pH, as it does not come into contact with plastic and other petroleum derivatives.
- Always use a condom and if you use spermicidal gels, perform regular microbiological checks of the flora in the area.
- A weakened immune system favors the occurrence of vaginitis, so follow a balanced diet, rich in fruits and vegetables that include vitamin C and other substances that protect the body from any infections.
- Quit smoking and limit alcohol, as both contribute to weakening the immune system.
- Avoid overuse of antibiotics, which also weaken the immune system. Use antibiotics only after medical advice and not for reasons such as a simple cold.
